TERM 2 - WEEK 3
Front Cover - 1/2 Morrison

In May we celebrate Mary, the Mother of Jesus. She was caring, kind and loving. We also celebrate our mums on Mother’s Day! In 1/2CM, we made a special picture for our Mums because they are amazing and care and provide for us.
Miss Morrison asked us, "What do we love about our Mums"?
Abigail: I love my mum because she is the best!
Ella: I love my mum because she made me and I wouldn’t be alive without her! She gives the best cuddles!
Evie: I love my mum because she cares about me, she feeds me and shows me lots of kindness and I love her so much!
Aiden: I love my mum because she helps me with things that are too hard!
Freddie: I love my mum because she gives me good hugs.
Bodhi: I love my mum because she buys me presents and she plays and colours in with me.
Kayson: I love my mum because she gives me cuddles.
Leadership
Dear Parents, Caregivers, Students, and friends of St Thomas More,
How quickly the time is going as we already find ourselves in week three of this term. The weather is becoming cooler, but we are still enjoying some beautiful, warm sunshine. Last Sunday we celebrated Mother’s Day, and we trust that all our mothers, grandmothers, and special women in our lives enjoyed a wonderful day with their families.
May is the Month of Mary
During this month of May, we pay special honour to our Blessed Mother. We take this opportunity to thank God for blessing Jesus with His special mother and for our universal mother, Mother Mary. The students in the 1/2MD class have shown their artistic skills and talents in the beautiful portraits they created of Mary. These are currently on display in our front office foyer, please take some time to view these when you next visit.
Catholic Education Week
This week we celebrated Catholic Education Week. Students across all year levels engaged in activities where they reflected on what they love about their school, St Thomas More, and what makes our community special. Some of our students shared the work they produced on this theme at our whole school assembly on Friday. Join us also on social media to view the student's work and in sharing Facebook posts about the reasons you love our school and being a part of our community, using the hashtag #LoveMyCatholicSchool.

Year 3/4 Classes Fundraiser – Movie Night
Last Friday 12 May, many families joined us to enjoy a special evening of entertainment whilst at the same time supporting the Year 3/4 fundraising efforts. We thank our Year 3/4 classes and teachers Katelyn Jessop, Laura Brown, and Jasmine Fischer for their diligent organisation and preparation making this a successful event. We also thank all other staff members for being in attendance and providing assistance on the night. A very big thank you to everyone for your very kind and generous donations which resulted in $175.00 being raised for Project Compassion.
Annual General Meeting (AGM)
On Monday 15 May, we held our AGM, and we thank those who were in attendance. This was an opportunity to share the school’s 2022 achievements and challenges. If you were unable to attend and would like to view the 2022 School Performance Report, please access this on our school website.
Information for Volunteering
We are always grateful for the generous donation of time and support provided to our school community by our volunteers. Volunteering applies to a wide range of activities in the school including attending class excursions and school carnivals, supporting in the canteen, and being a member of our school board. If you would like to act as a volunteer in the school, you are required to undergo mandatory processes and you will be supported through this. This requirement is designed to ensure that our students are protected and safe at school. If you are interested, please enquire at the front office.
Pupil Free Day, Friday 9 June
Please note that there is a Pupil Free Day scheduled for Friday 9 June. Staff will be involved in training and development on this day. OSHC will be available and if you require this service, please use the usual processes for booking.
Term 3 Reception Intake
This is a reminder that we have a Term 3 Reception intake each year. The criteria for starting Reception on the first day of school in Term 3 is that the children will have turned 5 on or before 31 October of that particular year (i.e. 2023 this year). If you have a child who is eligible for this intake, please make a time for an enrolment interview with a member of the Leadership Team. If you are aware of another family who has a child who is eligible to begin in Term 3 and is considering St. Thomas More School, please feel free to encourage them to make an enrolment interview time. Our transition program for Term 3 Reception students will occur this term providing them with the opportunity to meet and get to know their teacher and peers.

Project Compassion
Our fundraising for Project Compassion has now finished. Our Year 3/4 classes held a Movie Night on Friday as our final event. We would like to say a very big thank you to all our families for the donations you made to our various events which included, a pre-loved goods sale, a casual clothes day, an Easter raffle, and a movie night! With your generous donations to each of these events, you have helped us raise $907.55 for CARITAS Australia’s Project Compassion Appeal.
Catholic Education Week
Catholic Education Week has a core focus on celebrating teaching and learning and what it means to be part of a Catholic school community. This year we particularly focus on what students, staff, and families love about our school. With the images and words collected from students this week about what they love about our school, we have created a book that will sit in the front office for new families and visitors to explore while they wait.
Included in this newsletter are some images and comments from our students
