TERM 3 - WEEK 9
Front Cover - 1/2 Maiello

In 1/2SM, we enjoyed the sunshine and went outside to do some beautiful and vibrant chalk drawings.
We looked at many chalk drawing examples and really enjoyed those where people become part of the artwork created.
We also talked about writing positive messages as part of RU OK? Day. Messages about being kind, caring, understanding and respectful, checking in with each other, as we created our art.
This was a fantastic opportunity to show off student creativity, enjoy the sunshine and spread messages of kindness throughout the school community!
Leadership
Dear Parents, Caregivers, Students and friends of St Thomas More,
It’s hard to believe that we are now approaching the end of Term 3. The students and staff have enjoyed participating in various activities throughout the term and are looking forward to some wind-down time in the upcoming school holiday break. As we conclude the term, events occurring next week include the Catholic Schools Music Festival, the Year 1/2 excursion to the Adelaide Zoo and Mercy Day celebration.
Mercy Day Celebration
You are invited to join us on Thursday 29th September at 9.30am in the Jubilee Hall to celebrate a liturgy in honour of this significant day. Mercy Day celebrates the formal beginnings of Catherine McAuley’s ministry when she opened up her house in Dublin. As a school community, we continue to live out the Mercy Values each day which include compassion, justice, respect, hospitality, service and courage and which underpin all that takes place in our school. Everyone is invited to come along dressed in purple on this day and bring along a gold coin donation to help us support the works of Catherine House. Catherine House provides supported accommodation services to women experiencing homelessness in South Australia. We thank you for your support.
Learning Conversations
A very big thank you to our parents and caregivers for attending Learning Conversations with teachers, it was great to see so many in attendance. These learning conversations provided the opportunity to celebrate and review your child’s progress at school as well as discuss future directions for the remainder of this year. If you were unable to attend please contact your child’s teacher to make an alternative time to meet.
Year 5/6 Camp
Our Year 5/6 students and staff returned safely and somewhat tired from camp on Wednesday. They enjoyed a wonderful time away at Woodhouse Activity Centre participating in various activities including Challenge Hill, Disc Golf and Labyrinth. The students also participated in various team games developing bonds and strengthening their connection with others. We thank the staff for organising such a wonderful experience for the students and our volunteers for attending and supporting the camp event.
Catholic Schools Music Festival
On Monday 26 September some of our senior students will sing and perform at the Festival Theatre as a part of the annual Catholic Schools Music Festival. This is an entertaining evening and a wonderful opportunity for students across our Catholic schools to showcase their talents and skills as well as the various music programs provided in schools. The festival choir consists of 400 students on stage and is carefully choreographed to produce a performance of high quality. Other students from various Catholic schools also participate as solo performers and in bands and ensembles. We wish our students all the very best for this very special and memorable occasion. A very big thank you to Rosemarie Villano for all her hard work and efforts over the year to prepare the students for this very significant performance.
Pupil Free Day
We remind families that the last day of school for Term 3 is Friday 30th September. We have a Pupil Free Day on Monday 17th October therefore students will return to school on Tuesday 18th October to commence Term 4. We wish you all a very safe and enjoyable holiday break and we look forward to meeting up with you again next term.
Duty Of Care
A reminder that our Duty of Care commences at 8.30am and concludes at 3.20pm when Staff are responsible for the supervision of students. Children who are at school outside of these times will be placed in Out of Hours School Care. We thank you for your support with this matter.
PLEASE OBSERVE THE ‘NO STANDING’ AREAS AND ‘YELLOW LINES’ AROUND THE SCHOOL.
These areas are designated to help provide a safe environment for the students. We ask and expect that all members of the St Thomas More School community follow the road rules associated with the ‘School Crossing’ (on Yorktown Rd) and all road signage (both Yorktown Rd and Shillabeer Rd) stringently. They are also monitored by the police and council.
Please ensure children are dropped at the front gate or office if arriving after 9am to sign in to ensure they enter their class safely.

International Day for World Peace
Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. It is a day when individuals, communities, nations, and governments highlight efforts to end conflict and promote peace. The theme for 2022 is End Racism, Build Peace. Students and staff will take the opportunity during morning prayer to reflect on this theme. We all have a role to play in fostering peace. And tackling racism is a crucial way to contribute.
Mercy Day
Please join us in Week 10 on Thursday, September 29 as we celebrate Mercy Day and the sisters of Mercy, with a whole school liturgy at 9.30am in the Jubilee Hall.
Sacramental Program
We congratulate Chika on the celebration of First Eucharist and the Sacramental Journey.
We thank Edna Dumbrell from the Elizabeth Catholic Parish for leading this program throughout the year.
Classroom Learning
This term Year 5/6 JO and 5/6 CM reflected on the story of the Last Supper with their theme of Service. Mrs. Musolino shared the story of the Last Supper through Godly play and students had the opportunity to reflect on the washing of the feet as an act of service. Students in these classes have continued to learn about Service throughout the term which involved learning about their own individual strengths that help them to serve others.
