TERM 3 - WEEK 3
Front Cover - Book Week
The theme for Book Week this year is:
Dreaming with eyes open . . .
Book Week provides us with an opportune time to remind ourselves about the importance of books and reading in our lives. One of the most important things we can teach our children is the enjoyment of reading. Throughout the term all classes will be reading the shortlisted books for this years awards and as a celebration of reading we would like to invite the children to dress up as their favourite book character on
Friday 26 August - Term 3, Week 5
You are invited to get in the spirit and encourage your children to dress up and be involved in the day. We will be having our parade in Jubilee Hall @ 9:15am. Due to COVID-19, restrictions will apply. Further information about this will be provided closer to the date.
Please consider the weather conditions and ensure that your child is appropriately dressed and wearing suitable footwear (e.g. no thongs). Students may wear hair colour and make-up, but it must be put on at home and not brought to school.
This is not a casual clothes day and therefore any student not wearing a costume must wear their correct school uniform. Please see the flyer sent home with this information and more.
Leadership
Dear Parents, Caregivers, Students and friends of St Thomas More,
LLL Survey
As communicated in the letter that was sent home as a hard copy and the letter placed on Seesaw, Catholic Education South Australia (CESA) through National School Improvement Partnerships (NSIP) are asking parents and caregivers to participate in a survey providing feedback about the performance of St Thomas More School. This survey provides an opportunity for you to tell the school staff how things are going for you and your children, it is your impressions that we are seeking as there are no right or wrong answers. The school is provided feedback that does NOT include the data of individuals but rather graphs based on the feedback. For parents and caregivers with more than one child at the school, please respond based on the experience of your oldest child at the school.
A very big thank you to the parents and caregivers who have already participated in the survey, we appreciate your time and feedback. If you have not yet completed the survey which only takes 3-5 minutes a gentle reminder is given that the survey closes this Friday 12 August. If you have any further queries regarding the survey, please contact the front office.
Learning Conversations
This term we will be providing another opportunity for teachers to meet with families to discuss progress to date with student learning. These meetings will occur in Week 7, beginning 5th September. These learning conversations provide us with the opportunity to work in partnership to celebrate successes and achievements, review learning goals and adjustments and consider the next steps in the student’s learning. Further information will be sent home within the next fortnight about booking a meeting time. We look forward to meeting with you then.
COVID 19 Update
As per SA Health guidelines, a reminder that close contacts (those who have someone in their household who is COVID-19 positive) and who are over 12 years of age (and who do not have a mask exemption), should be wearing face masks. Also, please ensure that you keep your child home if they are not feeling well, and to get tested for COVID-19 if they are experiencing any symptoms. Please advise the school if your child has a positive test.
Staff, students (Year 3 and up) and adult visitors to school sites including for learning conversations, assemblies and masses are encouraged to wear masks. Mask wearing is an effective way to reduce COVID-19 transmission and we appreciate your cooperation and support with this.
While there will be continuing challenges ahead, it remains important that we still do our very best and keep our core business at the heart of what we do. It is important that we make it a positive experience for ourselves and our students as we continue to provide quality education and care while minimising the risk of COVID-19 transmission. We ask you to please refer to the SA Health website for further information: https://www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/
Arrival Times
It has come to our attention that several children are arriving at school after the morning bell. This is very disruptive for classes and not a good beginning to the day for the child. We understand that on an occasional day, things do not run smoothly at home or travelling to school, but we stress the importance of arriving at school between 8.30am - 8.45am to ensure that classes can begin promptly at 8.50 am. Parents too should be clear of classrooms by 8.50 am or move out of classrooms as soon as they hear the bell. If we truly value children’s learning, then we must make the most of every minute of their classroom learning time! Gates will be opened at 8.30am and locked at 9.00am in the morning and re-opened at 2.45pm and locked at 3.20pm in the afternoon.
Uniform
The uniform policy of St Thomas More School addresses the total appearance of the student while at school. The uniform is seen as an internal and external statement of the quality education offered at St Thomas More School. In effect, it presents to the public an image that is in line with the school ethos. In addition, the uniform is a means of helping to develop unity and pride within our community. The uniform policy is developed by the school community and approved by the School Board. It is an expectation that all students will comply with the policy in all its requirements. Indeed, enrolment at the school is dependent upon parents accepting and supporting the school’s uniform policy and rules. Generally, the students are wearing the correct uniform and look very smart. Please enquire at the front office if you are unsure about any aspects of the winter uniform.

Catholic Schools Open Week
August 22-28, Term 3, Week 5 2022
Choosing a school is one of the most important decisions that a parent makes. Catholic Schools Open Week is a great opportunity to see how a Catholic education can set your child up for life. In South Australia, families have a wide range of schooling options including a Catholic education. Through a commitment to educational excellence, Catholic schools provide quality learning in a Catholic context – from the early years through to Year 12 – instilling values that will last well beyond the schooling experience.
There are various ways you can explore the benefits of a Catholic education, however we recommend attending a tour to see the school in action. Or take an online tour for a taste of what a Catholic school can offer without having to leave home!
