Leadership
Dear Parents, Caregivers, Students and friends of St Thomas More,
St Thomas More Feast Day
St. Thomas More Feast Day is on June 22, a day where we celebrate the life of St Thomas More whom our school is named after. He is certainly a great choice for our school, given that he was a man who spoke up for what he believed was right and just. Thomas More was beheaded because he believed that God was far more important than the king of the time. As part of our culture here at St. Thomas More we stand up for justice, especially for the poor and marginalised.

Staffing News
This week we farewell our Finance Officer, Mrs. Sue Dixon. Sue concludes her time with us after years of wonderful service to the St Thomas More School community. Sue has been a valued and important part of the school and someone who has always been friendly, caring and welcoming to students, parents and visitors. On behalf of our school community, I’d like to thank Sue for her outstanding work ethic and commitment to St Thomas More School and wish her every success and blessing as she embarks on a new chapter in her professional career.
Mid-Year Reports
Wednesday 6 July (Term 2 Week 10) you will receive your child/ren’s Mid-Year Report. These will be given to your child in a sealed envelope. We do this to protect your child’s privacy and so that you (the parent/s) will be the first to read the report and discuss it with your child. These reports are a descriptive summary of your child’s progress for this year and should also point out to you and your child, the specific areas needed for ongoing learning improvement. It is essential to your child’s ongoing learning that both you and your child know of the achievements that they have made and what they need to do to continue this progress.
If there is anything in the report that comes as a surprise to you or your child, or you do not understand some of the comments made, then please make an appointment to see your child’s teacher.
I strongly urge you to take this opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher and the Specialist Teachers (if necessary) to discuss personally how your child is going, where they are at and how they can be supported to achieve successful outcomes.
Reception Induction
The last two Tuesday mornings, we have held our transition morning for our new Reception students to begin their school journey at St Thomas More School, in Term 3, 2022. We had excited and eager students who seemed to be delighted by their morning. The children were still beaming with excitement when their parents picked them up. While the children were busying getting to know one another, parents also gathered during this time to meet one another and begin (for some) their involvement in the St Thomas More School’s community. Parents have commented on how welcoming the other students have been towards the new students. This is one of the special qualities of St Thomas More School. Staff has also been delighted by the new students’ enthusiasm and how quickly they settled into their new environment. The final Reception transition date is Tuesday 21 June.
Nationally Consistent Collection Of Data
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data for students with a disability (NCCD). This is an opportunity for schools to reflect on the adjustments they are making for students with a disability so they can access and participate at school in line with legislative requirements. Teachers work in collaboration with families to plan, review and monitor the adjustments for students with a disability. These adjustments are recorded in a Personal Plan for Learning. If your child has a disability or if you suspect that your child has a disability we ask you to work in partnership with us. For further information regarding the NCCD please see the parent letter with this newsletter or speak to a member of the leadership team.
Information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au) See link below

Religion
The Liturgical Year of the Church and Special Celebrations
This week we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Trinity. One of our oldest traditions has been to call God by the names of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God shares himself with us through the three persons of the Trinity. We share the love of God the Father, the goodness of Jesus the Son, and the friendship of the Holy Spirit. God’s life is a mystery. It can be hard to understand with our minds, but we can deepen the understanding with our hearts.
Refugee Week begins on June 14 and the theme for 2022 is Healing. The purpose of refugee week is to promote harmony and togetherness in what can sometimes be a broken world. During refugee week we remember the millions of displaced people, refugees and asylum seekers around the world. We see their great courage and perseverance when they have lost everything. Often facing injustice, hardship and hostility, they show us how to stay strong and hopeful even when everything seems to go wrong.
Next week we celebrate the Feast of St, Thomas More. One of the most respected figures in English history, Thomas More was a statesman, scholar and author. He was noted for his wit and also for his devotion to his religion. Thomas More was canonised by Pope Pius XI in 1935, and his feast day is celebrated on June 22nd. This is the day where we celebrate the life of St Thomas More whom our school is named after. He is certainly a great choice for our school, given that he was a man who spoke up for what he believed was right and just.
