Leadership
Dear Parents, Caregivers, Students and friends of St Thomas More,
Over the past few weeks, we have witnessed and been confronted, through heartbreaking images, the tragedy that continues to engulf Afghanistan. Chaos, unrest, uncertainty and fear have invaded the lives of many people. We grieve with those who grieve the loss of lives and pray for those who have been displaced from their homes, seeking help and protection.
In response to this devastation, Pope Francis call us all to intensify prayer at this great time of need, stating “I join in the unanimous worry about the situation in Afghanistan. I ask you to pray along with me to the God of peace so that the clamor of weapons ends and that solutions can be found around a table of dialogue… Only this way can the martyred population of that countrymen, women, elderly and children – return to their homes and live in peace and security in full reciprocal respect”.
As a school community, we keep in our hearts, thoughts and prayers all those impacted by this destruction. We pray for an end to this conflict so that the people in Afghanistan can have the opportunity to live in peace, safety and mutual respect.
National Child Protection Week 5-11 September
Next week is Child Protection Week with the theme being Every child, in every community, needs a fair go. It's an opportunity to bring issues of child abuse and neglect into the spotlight and asks the whole community to reflect on the roles they can play in protecting the rights of young people. To treat all of Australia’s children fairly, we need to make sure every family and community has what children need to thrive and be healthy.
At St Thomas More we ensure the safety and nurturing of all children through our curriculum, policies and practices.
Traffic and Parking Reminders
The safety of our students and families is of paramount importance. We thank you for your extra care, patience and courtesy around the school crossings and the roads next to our school. Please do not park across driveways, respecting our surrounding neighbours.
Book Week
Last week we celebrated Book Week. It was wonderful seeing the children dressed as their favourite book character. Faces were filled with smiles and dialogue shared about the costumes was excited. A big thank you to Lesley Swann for organising an engaging parade and entertaining activity about the book “We’re going on a bear hunt. A big thank you also to the staff for their efforts in dressing up and input to the parade.
Happy Father’s Day
We wish all fathers and those who have roles in caring for young children, a very special Father’s Day. We hope you enjoy a wonderful weekend celebrating the many gifts that you bring to your role. Best wishes for a great day with your family.

BOOK WEEK 2021 - “OLD WORLDS, NEW WORLDS, OTHER WORLDS”
Established in 1945, the Children’s Book Council of Australia was founded at a time when Australian children’s books were few, and Australian authors and illustrators were virtually unknown. In 1946 the CBCA established annual book awards to promote books of high literary and artistic quality. These awards are now the most influential and highly respected in Australia.
Last Wednesday the students had a wonderful time dressing up and participating in the parade. We had Wally's, Dorothy's, Potters, superheroes and many more characters. Some staff went on a bear hunt and Cruella was surrounded by her dalmatians!
Classes have been reading the shortlisted titles and creating some great artwork.

Catholic Schools Cross Country Carnival
On Wednesday 18th August St Thomas More participated in the Catholic Schools Cross Country carnival at PAC oval in Adelaide. After many weeks of training, a small team of fifteen students participated in the challenging two-kilometre run.
On a beautiful Winter’s Day, students were able to complete the challenging 2km course successfully. Runners were able to achieve some great times with each race containing more than 100 competitors. The students showed great enthusiasm, competed to the best of their ability, and work through pain barriers to complete the gruelling 2km course.
Congratulations to all competitors on completing the 2km course and representing the school proudly.
Thank you to Lesley Swann and Cristian Morgado for their assistance and support on the day!
Well done everyone on a great performance!
